The Sound of Good-Bye

Echoes in the background of my mind
Then I look at you
And see tears streaming down your face.
I never thought we could end.
Apparently neither did you.
But none the less the pain will fade
And you and I will move on with our lives
But that sound of good-bye will always
Echo through our minds,
That sound we thought we'd never hear,
That sound we both regret.
