» Poem: Goodbye Grandad
Goodbye Grandad
written by mattwhatever

To be honest I never appreciated you when you were there
I took you for granted, too up my own ass to care
You were so warm and despite your frailties, so strong
You weren’t scared to tell me when I was wrong
You had so much life so much fight
To see you in the street, it was a sight
So popular and loved by all
When you stood up, you stood tall
Your love of your garden, the outdoors
You’d take me on your little tours
Your love for my Nan was so clear to see
To her you were devoted, together you were meant to be
I saw her face the day you died
You’ll never know how much she/we cried
You were an amazing person, and I let you down
You had faith in me, I buried my head in the ground
But I’ll never forget your influence, your belief in me
I’ll make you proud just wait and see.
