» Poem: An Ode to a Show Lace
An Ode to a Show Lace
written by kryppled

Oh white knitted pearl
So limp and abused
You lie on the floor
Rotted and used

You served a good purpose
Now your time has passed
Your brown textured surface
Will no longer last

Oh white knitted pearl
You went well with my shoes
Your perfect knots intact
Great for soccer use

The ball was smacked
While others tripped
And you stayed intact
You never ripped

Oh white knitted pearl
Those times were great
We ran to the swings
We stayed out late

I dragged you through mud
And you never failed
To keep me from falling
To keep me on ground

Oh white knitted pearl
My gratitude's paid to you
For all of those
When the sky was blue

We played ball hockey outside
I used you for my blades
And when I had nothing
I tied you for my braids

Oh white knitted pearl
It was only a matter of time
Before you would unravel
Before you would unwind

Your perfect taped end
Has fallen apart
You no longer knot
You and my shoes must part

Oh white knitted pearl
You sway in the breeze
You dangle and twirl
While birds are appeased

They take you by beak
And fly to their nest
To soften and tweak
Your sinew to rest

Oh white knitted pearl
There you will stay
Until there is new purpose
For the new coming day
