» Poem: "Hush Little Baby"
"Hush Little Baby"
written by _stephy_

A helpless girl,
a loveless heart;
years to save a life
but a day to tear it apart.
A second of self-content,
years of sorrow and pain;
it doesn't matter what happens now,
nothing could ever be the same.

"I don't know what I'm doing,
I don't know where to turn.
The pain that stands within my heart
forever seems to burn.
I'm lost without hope
and I'm standing without being alive;
save me, save me from myself -
I feel the need to die."

A stormy night,
a story untold;
the storm only brews
and the words unfold.
A girl in need,
a girl full of fear;
a boy to ruin it all
and help her shed her tears.

"I'll help you my friend,
I'll always be here.
Come on over to my house,
I'll save you my dear.
Relax on my couch,
just make yourself at home.
Take off that heavy sweater;
it's just us two alone."

As the tensity grew
the storm did as well;
the night wasn't too great,
it was going to Hell.
He was getting closer,
she was backing away -
she said they were just friends
but he didn't think so that day.

"Get off of me please,
I'm not ready for this.
Whenever you touch me
I'm thinking of him.
I'm hurt and I'm crying
but you don't want to help;
just let me go home -
please take me yourself."

Thunder boomed loudly
and the power went out;
nothing could be heard
but a ear-damaging shout.
No one came to the rescue
and soon everything was calm.
She layed upon his bedroom floor
as he sang his own sweet song.

"Hush my little baby,
don't say a word;
you're going to be
my own baby girl.
And I'll pretend that I love you
as you do my little deeds
and I'll pretend that I care
as I give you all you need.
You'll never have to leave here
and everything will be fine.
Just remember, forever and always,
you're property of mine."

The police thought nothing of it
as the two moved in at once;
and no one believed the girl,
he was trusted far too much.
Days turned to weeks
and weeks soon to years
as the couple lived together
behind the screams no one could hear.

"In the light of the moon days come to an end
and I sit here alone, wishing you were my friend;
I have bruises on my arms, and cuts on my wrists
and I shudder at the thought of our every kiss.
I'm killing myself, I'm living a lie,
and after all these years, I still don't know why.
Why don't they believe me, why am I still here?
Why can't I get away; why don't I cry tears?
How many more nights where I sit alone
wishing I had a place to really call home;
why am I just dying? Why won't you just help?
How come even when I scream, no one hears me yell?"

A few days passed by
before the news was passed on;
in the midst of a full moon night,
the girl once more heard his song.
And she ran from her "master"
but he caught up all the same
and he took what was hers
as he caused her much pain.
In the early morning
as people started to appear
they found her bloody body
by the side of the river.
No one thought that he had done it;
he was handsome, charming and nice,
but below his covered body
was a heart as cold as ice.

Now he's singing his song
to the nice new girl he just found;
the young maiden who left home
and moved to a brand new town.
And he's whispering in her ears
as she struggles to get away
but she's already his
and he proved so today.

"Hush my little baby,
don't say a word;
you're going to be
my own baby girl.
And I'll pretend that I love you
as you do my little deeds
and I'll pretend that I care
as I give you all you need.
You'll never have to leave here
and everything will be fine.
Just remember, forever and always,
you're property of mine."
