» Poem: Heads down
Heads down
written by Poison Ivy
04:05 AM 9/18/04
"Heads down!" says the teacher
lay down for the rest
for the time to hide from everyone
in the darkness underneath my arms.
So i don?t have to hear the snickers behind me
so i wont need to pay attention
to the mocking of my ways.
Time for heads down
to listen to the little lungs work
and watch the oxygen become used up.
To hide under the threads of my hair
to block out the tiny beams of light
when i put my head down.
And now that its time to wake
i want to stay down
i want to dream
to gaze upon my imaginary world
and just to have fun.
And ignore the voices around me
and play in my eternal night sky
but sadly the teacher slams the desk
to wake me up.
The giggles echo across the classroom
at me, and my attempts to play.
But i guess i can try again,
next time to put our heads down...
