» Poem: still standing
still standing
written by angel1dot0

You see him stand there
with a hat in his hand
the war took all he had
his love his pride and his land

and now he sleeps in the streets
eating whatever he can find
and he begs: "sir have mercy
spend a dollar, be kind"

you see him stand there
but can't believe his words are true
let me tell you, brother
he could have been you

there are things in our history
that can't be undone
fear, hate and inhumanity
aren't new beneath the sun

in a world where humanity is a weakness
