» Poem: Your Dark Brown Eyes
Your Dark Brown Eyes
written by annachibi

You wonder why I can't look at you when I cry
Don't you realize that I'm trying to hide
From the pain that I see in your dark brown eyes

As far as I can tell,
You had a decent childhood
There were bad times, as well,
But I had my fair share, too

There's an angel in you who is screaming,
Wanting to spread its wings
I can hear its cries from inside you,
And like so many things,
The only one who can hear it -- is me

That's how I know that there's
Something you're not telling me
Although you think no one cares,
I'm dying inside, trying to set you free

Author's footnotes and comments on this Poem:
From May 21st, 2004. I actually feel like giving this one a different title, but, oh well. This is about a dear friend of mine who has a habit of donning a particularily nonchalant-looking face a lot. Whenever he does this, I sense that there's something upsetting him, but he never admits anything if I ask. I had the unfortunate fate to love him, and whenever I brought that to his attention, well... it got emotional. He didn't want to return my feelings because he held back in an effort to keep himself from hurting others. It took me almost two years to accept the fact that I couldn't help him with this--and I'm only sixteen.
