» Poem: Angel Like You
Angel Like You

Such overwhelming love you give,
With a strong passion to live.
You wear pain like a Purple Heart;
Hurt like that would tear me apart.
A storm of knives couldn't stop you.
Lord, what did I ever do
To deserve an angel like you?

Take a break to shield your own pain.
Don't worry 'bout me; I like it in the rain.
I'm not worthy of your affection,
Excuse me, let me make a correction:
I meant to say I can't love you,
Because what could I ever do
To please an angel like you?

A broken heart will never go away
But I could never make you stay
Spread your wings and fly back home
If I can't have you, I'm better off alone
So I guess that now we're through,
But what shall I ever do
Without an angel like you?

Author's footnotes and comments on this Poem:
April 2nd, 2004. I finally came to terms with the fact that I couldn't force someone to love me, even if it seemed like they did because they were so concerned about me and my feelings. But, alas, I may be able to wait forever, but I can't bring myself to pin him down. And so, this poem is that realization in written form.
