» Poem: Severi Lamentatio
Severi Lamentatio
written by jsdelibes

First when you came to me, you were a child yet, wary and solemn,
Cleaving to foolishness, prejudice, notions of evil and virtue.
You had the gifts of the darkness, powerful, latent within you,
Gifts you misunderstood, language of snakes and the mark set upon you,
Ordained by the oracle’s haunting prediction. Destiny summoned;
You wouldn’t answer, rejecting the wisdom that I could have given.

You turned your back on the house of your future, spurning your birthright,
Scorning the legacy bought with the blood of your mother and father,
Denying your destiny, frightened by strength in the shadows and darkness,
Fleeing instead to the house of bravado and useless flamboyance.
How could I teach you, how could I show you, all you were meant for?
Faith you withheld from me, fearing me evil, fooled by appearance;
Youthful naiveté led you astray, struck you blind and unhearing,
Trusting in others, closing your ears to my words of salvation.

Always have I been protective, twice I have saved you from ruin,
Thrice did I unmask those who would hurt you, enemy allies.
Swallowing hate for the face of your father, trying to teach you
Secrets of power, potions and psyche, secrets of glory.

What are you practicing, you and your friends, when preparing for battle?
Expelliarmus, Protego, Silencio, jinxes and hexes,
Impotent babbling nursery rhymes in the voices of children!
Strongest of wizards, your word should command all the might of the cosmos;
You should be speaking with stars and the souls of the dead and the unborn.

Once did you listen, once did you glimpse the potential within you,
Once when we threw the Legilimens spells in the aether between us,
Yours was my wisdom, open to you as at last you succumbed to
Hatred and darkness, the treasure you sought at your hand for the taking.
Then you recoiled, unwilling to penetrate, mystery never
Revealed, should have pressed harder, discovered my purposes for you.

What did you feel when the Dark Lord possessed you and showed you his power?
Then did you realize what you’d discarded and might have commanded?
You were the chosen one, promised by prophecy, born to redeem us,
Your name forever enshrined in the annals of life everlasting,
Heaven subservient, nature compelled by your wish and your whisper,
Firmament bending to your touch alone, adoration of millions.

Now it’s too late, all is lost, for the ultimate battle commences,
Tragedy looming, death and catastrophe surely upon us.
I will be here at your side when the signal is finally given.
Fated to fall, we will struggle regardless and perish together,
Felled by the power that should have been yours, yet you feared to possess it.

There is no good and no evil, there are no demons or angels,
Only the temples of history raised in the name of the victor,
Only the ashes which smoke in the ruins of power abandoned,
Only the legions triumphant, only the dead and forgotten.
Idiot stripling, Boy Who Lived, your choices have doomed us.
