» Poem: The Last Night
The Last Night
written by Lothiriel
06:52 AM 12/21/04
Were you waiting for me to beg you to let me stay
Were you relieved when I asked nothing at all
just nodded and sighed, agreed sullenly
that it would never take place,
the things we thought we could foresee

The times we were our happiest dance through my mind
your eyes shine like there's no tomorrow
like a picture film before me
I choke up and begin to cry
knowing that this is the last night I'll be in your life

I hear your footsteps pace the floors above
while I hide so I can subtly cry to myself
Knowing that you will be okay
Knowing that you won't ask me to stay
Knowing that you will have never known until now
that this is the last night I'll be in your life
And I won't cry now, while I'm sitting here
though the tears are streaming down
I'll leave you with the peace that you deserve
and the peace that I should have given you years ago

Yet still I choke up and begin to cry
because I know that this will be the last night
that I'll ever be in your life
