"But hope is fickle." (plz read!)

The clock doesn't tick to warn me of the waning hour,
but the digital time sits helpfully at the bottom right side of the screen.
My eyelids get heavy, but sleep just won't come for me,
on this or any time since your departure.
My typing is slower than the normal day, but still accurate,
Nonetheless.
A stifled yawn makes my eyes water, the only tears I can accumulate now.
The news of your friend's arrest came after the news of your latest job,
and the awaited news of your containment,
dreadful though it is,
is inevitable.
The wind's blowing softly here, and there's a chance of snow.
But it's colder in Idaho than Kentucky, so I needn't ask about the weather there?
I expect your heart has been cold since I met you,
but you built a fire inside it, just for me.
But I fear, the Northern Winds will blow out the already flickering flame,
and my tears have destroyed the matches.
Do you have a light?
Have you tired of me?
How soon will your heart turn cold again?
Spring's arrival is supposed to bring yours as well,
but will the flowers be alone?
Will the birds arrive singing again, without you?
I hope not, but hope is fickle.
As are you.
