» Poem: What the HELL was i thinking?
What the HELL was i thinking?
written by ieatsmellysocks

And at that moment I was struggling not to cry
Not to let myself shed those dreadful tears
As something deep inside me began to die
Its something important but impossible to find
And in my hopeless search for it I nearly lost my mind.

No matter how hard I searched it couldn’t be found
I ignored the sounds of children laughing
Ignored the innocent laughter all around.
I was sitting there shivering in the unwanted cold
Haunted by voices reminding me of stories I left untold.

The shadow of an unwelcomed stranger
Cast upon my cobwebbed door
I pressed my curious ear against it
To hear whispers slyly reciting
Nevermore,nevermore,nevermore.
And in the darkness brought by the fury of the storm
I sat upon my lonely straw bed
Eyes fixed upon the rustling curtains draped over my gaping window
With yesterdays events replaying in my head.
They tapped tapped like raindrops on my window pane
I slowly pulled the door open a crack
And when I peeked through I screamed at what I saw
And almost had a heart attack.
They made a sound like bones scraping together
And I quickly shut and locked the door
Only to face the lonely voices behind me
Nevermore,nevermore,nevermore.
