Death bed

In a bid to keep the silence.
Can you softly feel my heartbeat?
I'm growing so weak.
It's almost impossible to bat an eyelid.
"Go to rest" you whisper in my ear.
Your voice soothes me,
Like a baby's lullaby.
You hold the hand,
That lays limply by my side.
Oh my darling,
Please don't cry.
I can taste your tears that fall on my lips.
I try to find the strength,
To say three little words.
I can only manage the I,
And then I find it hard to breathe.
You begin to panic,
You're wondering what to do.
"It'll be ok, wont it?" You keep asking yourself.
It will be ok, my love.
there's a long pause,
and a long beep.
please don't cry.
i'll be safe in heaven,
the angels will look after me.
forever I will watch down on you.
i'm nearing the light.
have the doctors come in yet?
i don't know,
i'm in my own little world.
half way between death and life.
am I dreaming?
At that moment I wake up,
And you sit sleeping in the chair.
Your hand's still holding mine.
I'm still laying here in silence.
A nurse comes in,
She says "It'll all be ok."
You smile the first smile I've seen for days.
You lean over to kiss me.
Then it happens again.
i can see you in the waiting room,
the doctors telling you something.
why are you crying?
what is he saying?
i caught a glimpse of what he said.
"i'm sorry, he's gone"
don't cry. |
