» Poem: Sweet Marie
Sweet Marie

Tom was walking down the street, thinking of his sweet Marie.

As he walked and thought of she, and how his life could no longer be.

He heard a faintly tapping sound, yet no source could be found.

So he walked 'round aimlessly, Past house by house, down street to street.

He heard another tapping noise, this time followed by a raspy voice.

But Tom continued to walk, and felt the presence of someone stalk.

So he turned and yelled to no one, "Quit this senseless mockery-"

But he stopped and stared to see, the outline of his sweet Marie.

No, it could not be, for she died this very eve.

He turned to run, but to no avail, So he looked her in the eyes so very pale.

Yet he stood there and mumbled on, "No Marie, you must begone."

With pain and sorrow in her eyes, she turned and left with no goodbyes.

Tom sat there, sadness high, For he got to see his sweet Marie, one-last-time.
