» Poem: Capsule-Escape
Capsule-Escape
written by IceBound

Granted there are some ‘things’ that cross the line
I step up, with you strength, struck down
Things that kill to evade
I cannot destroy them all
Some still lurke in your mind’s eye
And in time they will face
But this unknown force, this face…
Everyone gets a little carried away
Taking charge, I aided your situation
I turn my back for a second and it attacks…
Reaching out my hand, you pull away
You’ve huddled in a corner, I can sense you fear
It wasn’t yet strong enough to finish you
Why do you look at me so?
I’m afraid my worst fear has risen
Risen from the ashes of my palace
Still in its dormant form, you’ve seen its face…
You know it’ll be back
Who in their right mind would stay?
You fear your partner’s betrayal do you not?
So you find another means of running…
But your capsule-escape wasn’t enough was it?
Wasn’t enough to do yourself in
Now back to routine reality
You run…but of course
Naturally you run from the monster
In the dark he hides
Watching, waiting…
And last night, opportunity’s face
It struck you down, fed you
The bullshit complications called ‘family’
Nothing you haven’t already dealt with
But your vulnerability shown through
It saw through to the real you
Fed you enough emotion needed
You’ve been pushed too far
Farther than ever before, but he couldn’t finish you
So he hands you your fatalistic escape
Your suicide attempt fell through
I know now what encapsuled you hate
The monster that fed the lies, cut free
Blind to the reflection of its faces in your eyes
This monster, this person…was me
