» Poem: A soldier's daughter never cries.
A soldier's daughter never cries.

A soldier's daughter never cries.
She never sheds a tear.
Not even with her daddy gone.
Off in war for years.

She writes him letters filled with love.
And sends them every week.
She signs them all with her name.
And a promise that she'll never weep.

One week, however, he didn't write back.
But his daughter wouldn't fear.
For she believed the post was just late,
And his letter would soon appear.
..........
She stared blankly at the man,
Who carried her dad's tags on a chain.
Even though she was torn at the heart,
She wouldn't show her pain.

During the funeral, she wouldn't cry.
She just stared into space.
But when she went to say her last, "good-bye,"
A tear fell on his face.

She cried and weeped and mourned for days.
Her daddy was forever gone.
She stared at her daddy's service flag,
As it flew out on the lawn.

Though she remembered her promise,
It was no suprise
When she stood in the yard, eyes full of tears
And she repeated the lines her dad had told her for years.
"A soldier's daughter never cries."
