Shamefully Blessed

how sorry I am
so I'll write it all out for you
You would think I'd have learned by now
How delicately truthful you have been to me all these years
How you have been right there behind me
Watching as I fall over and over again
Only to be the first one at my side
To hold me as I cried
And I never took the time
To be there in return
For you
I have taken you for granted
And edged your heart with an indignity
That you never deserved of yourself
I’m the one who is shamed
And I have every reason to be
I deserve it, I do
And I don’t wish for you to tell me that it’s all good
When I give you a weak smile and turn away
Because I’m too ashamed to see you cry
Please don’t cry for me any longer
I will hold your hand till the end
I can’t promise that it will be easy
I wish that I could
I can’t let you fall apart
Because I cannot pull myself together inside
And I know that you think I don’t appreciate
Much of what you do
We were apart for so long
That things seem almost alien sometimes
Yes, you know me from the inside out
But things, they change
And they rearrange how we seem to feel
And I don’t show you that often
I love you so much
With each breath that you take
Often when I’m quiet and distant
I’m the one who is shamed
Please never feel that it is you
Without you, I would not be me
I wouldn’t have the only kind of love
That completes a being so blessedly |
