» Poem: Not a Puppet on Your Stained Wall
Not a Puppet on Your Stained Wall
written by CrzyAnml6666

Alone where no one really wants to find me
Watching shadows dance like frenzied natives
Upon stained walls of desolate confusion
You don't want to visit me here in isolation
Lest the stench of rancid pain
Layers of your conscience
anesthetizing your emotions with suffering

Alone in this frightening, familiar place
I sink or swim, breathe or choke to death
In remembrances I would rather forget
If you haven't been here, don't visit
for once you have you will beg to leave
I don't mind so much being alone here
You don't have to be concerned, not overly

It’s easier to face it alone than tell you
About the places I've been and still
Visit in untimely, unwelcome reveries
Places too dark to catch a reflection
Of the person I think I might be
A cavernous prison where Hell yawns
Beneath and Heaven is silent above

I scream and struggle to irrevocably sever
The tenacious tentacles enveloping the soul
With haunting regret and damnable shame
But at best there is only a short reprieve
From entanglement of their barren branches
There is no freedom from hated memories
You fall through their trap door repeatedly

Don't try to visit me here, wait until
Those days I'm forced to return
To my solitary confinement in the cell
With bars of broken promises and dreams
And frenzied shadows I can never forget

I decided I had to be me
Not a numb shadow or a puppet
Who can only move or speak
When you pull his strings
The same problem remains
You don't like freedom or me
When you pull my strings
I move in an opposite direction
And you can't deal with it

One day I'm your brother
Worthy of every consideration
And complete adoration
And then like the shifting
Of an ill fated wind
I become your enemy
Proverbial thorn in your side
You lash out in anger and pain
Yanking furiously at the strings
Weakening their hold

So what do we do now
Are you ready to cut the cords
That bind me to you or shall it
Be a war of wills forever
I don't have forever left
So I'll just go on being me
And you can pull on those
Disabled strings
If you must
But don't be shocked
When they fail to move me
For they will be dancing
Upon stained walls of yesterday
