These Three Words (Feel free to comment.

Anxiously eyeing the clock
Retracing my steps
Over and over
Counting the minutes
Until her arrival
Kneeling before a crackling fire
Adding another log
I rose to check again
My preparations for tonight
The thick tiger striped rug
Lay lovingly spread
Before the flames
Waiting for her
The book of my poetry
The one she longed after
In that tiny shop downtown
Rested on the warm stone hearth
Waiting for her
The wine
That special bottle
From a few months ago
Late fall harvest
Sat open
And sweet
Waiting for her
The glasses
My best red crystal
Sat sparkling
In the firelight
Waiting for her
My hand
Stopped a moment
Over my heart
And lovingly touched
The prize held there
Hidden away in my pocket
Where it lay
Waiting for her
Taking the ring
From its secret place
I gazed at it
Mesmerized by its shine
By what it stood for
Soon I smiled and
Softly slipped it back
To its repose
Where it lay
Waiting for her
Seating myself back on the chair
I resumed my vigil
Over the fire
Over the wine
Over the clock
Over myself
And I sat
Quiet and lost in thought
Thinking only of you
Wondering what is to become of us
Understanding all you have been through
Hoping to slowly gain your trust
My heart aches for you, and also I yearn
I want to understand you
In hopes that I will learn
Your uniqueness
Special qualities amaze me
Your smile
Your mind
Your voice
Its beautiful sound
Your eyes
Your hair
Your ability to cheer me up
When you see that I am down
My feelings for you go beyond that of words
And at first it didn't seem real
But that just taught me a lesson
In doubting what I feel
It seems I dreamed you into life
And the reason for my stare
The bluest sky
The deepest sea
Don't even compare
Savanah, my dear
You're so very special
In every single way
And thoughts of you
Run through my head
Every hour of the day
I hope that you will understand
Just how I feel about you
I want to be your guiding hand
For all that you go through
I want to show you my love is true
I know in my heart you will always stay
But these three words I must say
I LOVE YOU!!!!!! |
