» Poem: You and Me Tonight
You and Me Tonight
written by breakmyheart
12:30 AM 2/10/05
You and me tonight
The wind blowing through our hair
Singing along to the radio
Dusk is on the horizon
Radio on, windows rolled down

You and me tonight
The road beneath us
like ribbon
winding and unwinding
Mountains and valleys
The starry sky telling its secrets
whispering its fantasies to us.
Conspirators with the gods.

You and me tonight
wishing the world would stop
for just this once.
Pause for a minute
so we could stop to take a picture.

You and me tonight
Your hand gropes the seat
trying to find mine
I look you right in the eye, and wonder
will this stay forever
or will the leaves turn?
The seasons change?

You and me tonight
beneath this pink moonlight
this beautiful canyon
We park the car and run to the edge
yelling our deepest thoughts into the crater
just to hear them roll back up at us.

You and me tonight
knowing that there are people
who would think we're just children
playing games.
But we both wish
those people didn't exist, anyway.
