My Best Friend

The day I met her, I liked her from the start
She seemed so happy and so alive
Little did I know about her real life
She wore happy colors, like blue and pink
But she was more unhappy than you'd ever think
She sometimes did drugs, and envied a few
But she's a great friend, she's honest and she's true
The fact that she's unhappy and the fact that she's blue
Only blinds her to the fact that people envy her too
She doesn't see that they would kill to have her life
To live like her, they'd readily give up their knives
But neither I nor they know exactly what she feels
We're in no place to say if her misery is real
All I can do is raise her self-esteem and tell her I love her
Tell her no one's better than her, and no one is above her
Although she might not believe me, nothing I say is a lie
I can hope that if I tell her enough, she'll come around and realize
That it could be worse, and she has it pretty good
Even though she rebels, she's really just misunderstood
Nothing could get in the way of our friendship
Not any guy, or argument, or hardship
She may not know it, but I'm lucky she's my friend
Because if she weren't in my life, I'd probably already be dead |
