» Poem: Wheel of the Year
Wheel of the Year
written by Twilights_dawn

The battles drawing closer,
the leaves turn green to gold.
As we all wait for winter's embrace,
the Oak King companions grow cold.

The Oak King is that force of nature,
who takes the summer away.
He changes green to red and brown,
waiting for winter's display.

At last the day's upon us,
the fight is about to begin.
Who will win and who will lose,
who will sleep until their time comes again.

The Ice King waits for the event,
the battle he has always won.
The one the Oak King cannot prevent,
for his time has come.

As they take their places,
for the battle to the death.
They join in each other's embraces,
"Until we meet again, brother," they murmur under their breath.

As they take their swords from their sheathes,
their faces leave no tace of guilt.
You can hear the clashes of ice on wood,
then see the Oak King wilt.

At last the battle is over,
winter is finally here.
The Oak King's companions gather closer,
to welcome what they have never feared.

As the Oak King is layed to rest,
they say a silent prayer.
And they all join in,
to lift their sad despair.

"Soon you will wake,
and walk among us again.
While you are gone we will not forsake
the cooling ground that is your domain."

Now winter has come and gone,
a new battle will begin.
The Poppy Queen has come,
to take her rightful place again.

As winter days grow warm,
and springs comes to life,
The Poppy Queen grows ever stronger,
building in stregnth and strife.

The day of the next battle is upon us,
brother and sister prepare.
The crowds gather to the battle field,
where the barrier of the season will tear.

The battle has begun,
the swords clank and hiss.
And then until the final run,
when the Poppy Queen doesn't miss.

As the Ice King dies,
winter dies with him too.
The flowers open and sigh,
at all the growing left to do.

Now the days grow warmer,
the heat too much to bear.
The Poppy Queen's days are ending,
as the Sun Queen's time grows near.

The Sun Queen prepares to fight,
to burn the spring away.
As the battle draws closer,
she waits for her sister's last day.

The battle wages long and hard,
lasting until the Poppy Queen couldn't bear it.
She fell to let nature take its way,
leaving the Sun Queen every last bit.

As the wheel turns round,
the seasons churn and change.
And now the battles begin once again,
to keep the balance in proper range.
