» Poem: Beautiful
Beautiful

"Beautiful,"she said to me one night
As she tied ribbons in my hair.
"Beautiful," she told me once again,
While in her rocking chair.
"Beautiful," she said, when I had fallen
With scars all on my face.
"Beautiful," she said I'd always be,
Though I felt out of place.

But her clock was ticking, that I knew
Ticking day by day
And soon time turned her skin to folds
And turned her hair to gray.
The world spun way too quickly
And dust formed on her mirror
And instead of the smile I once knew
Her reflection brought a tear.

Time found us both together
On the night to be her last.
Her skin was ghostly pale,
Bones delicate as glass.
I held her hand, she looked at me
With a teardrop in her eye.
"Beautiful," I said, and saw her smile,
And then I said good-bye.
