I wouldn't know, I wasn't there

I didn't even know you when it happened.
I know it flung you into despair
And killed a part of you I'll never get to know.
You hide it very well
I would have never suspected a thing,
But when I look deeper into your eyes
There is pain too great
For your mask to hide.
I wasn't there.
I wouldn't know how you felt when your world ended
All I can do is watch
You wander in the darkness it has left you
Knowing that no matter how many candles I try to light
It will never go away.
There is nothing I can say.
"I'm sorry"
Is that all I can muster? Some wimpy apology for nothing?
"I know how you feel"
How would I know? I'm not you.
"That sucks"
Could I get any more obvious?
"Oh my god that's horrible!"
Is it possible to sound any more like an airhead?
"Life goes on"
Yeah, but so do the things you don't want to live with
"I'll always be there for you"
I wasn't always there for you. I wasn't there when it happened.
"You're not the only one"
More friends commiting suicide. Just what you need.
"Don't kill yourself too"
How is that comforting?
I wasn't there.
I wouldn't know how it felt.
I know it still hurts.
Just so you know,
I'm here now if you need me. |
