Even Roses Bleed (please comment)

when the fists go down
and the guns go up
and the only screaming on the block
isn't coming from the married couple's apartment anymore
now its the violence that we never wanted
in the park where the kids play
tomorrow morning
they'll read all of this
in the blood stains on the asphalt.
this gang versus that one
it's not as special
as it used to be
not as sacred
it's just routine
and everyone involved doesn't want it
they never did.
but it happens all the same.
because people have their reputations
to keep up with.
and when the screaming starts
it's not coming out of any of their mouths
it's the spanish mother on the corner
who has a son who knows
what he's in for.
there's a little sister in the second story window
banging on the glass
crying,
because her brother that loves her
is down there with the gun pushed in his chest.
and how funny that the married couple
stopped yelling for a moment
to see what's going on.
and they finally realize
that their problems aren't the only ones in the world. |
