» Poem: In mourning
In mourning

Back when I was a young girl,
Life and laughter,
Boys chasing girls,
Pulling my pigtails,
Passing notes,
"I like you, do you like me?"
Holding hands on the playground,
Youthful abandon,
Racing to class,
"Call me after school!"
Tea Parties,
Slumber Parties,
Hide and seek at night,
Running around the block till all hours,
"Catch me if you can!"
Wild, carefree, and childish.

Youthful days have gone,
Grownup games now played,
No more pigtail pulling,
Don't kid around,
No joking,
"I like you, do you like me?"
Playing hide and seek in the sheets
Tell me you love me,
Don't call me for days,
Wild Parties,
Pity Parties,
Grownup games,
Headaches,
Heartaches,
Cautious and reserved.

I mourn my childhood.
