The Key to Perfection
written by Misstress_Avelina08:27 PM 3/31/05She is wire
Easily bent and twisted
Manipulated by distant hands
A small sliver of injustice
She is glass
Smooth on the surface
Effortlessly shattered or cracked
A thing with little exceptional value
She is the bird in the isolated cage
The faint screams never ceasing
Unable to fly away
With one broken wing
She waits for the key
A light through the darkness
A glimpse of hope
She waits for the key
She is blinded by unshed tears
Afraid to let even one fall
For fear that others might sense
Even an ounce of imperfection
Frail and naïve
Shrunken chest, hips, and thighs
A small parcel of what she despises
She waits for the key
She learned to lie in a day
Her nimble fingers and toes crossed
All to comfort herself
Proclaiming to others that she untruly ate
Transparent skin that stretches
Over her 5 foot 4-inch body
A layer of covering
In which can hide her sorrow
When the voices that care sound louder
The girl staring back in the mirror
Shadow eyed and pale
Will summon the courage to grow
Reflections that scream
Taunts and gestures that drill
Simple things that verify her worth
From the slaves to the gods of precision. |
