» Poem: Loosing Michael
Loosing Michael
written by Lady Deathstrike
09:13 PM 4/8/05
Broad linebacker shoulders
And a stunning smile
When Michael looked at you
You suddenly felt worthwhile
With perfectly tussled auburn hair
And a sprinkle of freckles to match
All the girls agreed
He was a fine catch
He’d help anyone out
He was always very kind
All the teachers loved him
A straight A student
It was like he could read their minds
The best at every sport he tried
He was always willing to teach others his tricks
How to throw the perfect spiral
How to toss the perfect pitch
He was adored, revered, almost worshiped
Yet he was also just one of the guys
A winning laugh
And sparkling green eyes that drew you in
It was love at first sight
For most who saw that grin
But after years and years of wear
The mask was beginning to fray
Sometimes the stress would get to be too much
He'd say things he didn’t mean to say
One night he came home to his dark house
His younger brother was stoned
His sister, of course, was “out”
His dad was staring at a blank TV
“Couldn’t pay the electric bill”
He said humorously
Michael entered his parents’ bedroom
Opened the dresser drawer
Pushing aside empty beer bottles
He found what he was looking for
He raises the pills to his lips with a finely etched hand
Looking more like a frightened boy
And less like a man
His tanned handsome face shows no remorse
As vicadin and ecstasy takes its course
He kneels beside his bed
And lowers his defeated head
Soon now, this nightmare will end
