» Poem: His Heart
His Heart
written by twistedmind33
08:33 PM 4/10/05
She let the phone fall from her hand
And land in the cradle with a click
The keys dropped from her hands
And she walked into her room dumbfounded
The walls were plastered with her own creations
Meaningful lyrics
Heart-felt poems
Pictures to remind her of other worlds
She never thought life would bring her here
Trapped in her own worries
Not realizing anything else that was occurring
She let the tears fall as she fell back on her bed
Why’d she have to give up on him?
She could have helped
He didn’t have to do what he did
She got caught up in her daydreaming
And drifted to times when things were "perfect"
She forgot to be sad
And then discovered she had one new message
She hit play and was greeted with the same robotic voice repeating the pre-massage lecture
But it was followed by an all too familiar and chilling one
It didn’t fit
Only because it belonged to him
He was telling her good-bye
He loved her and was sorry for putting her in pain
He told her of a secret treasure and where to find it
When the message ended
She grabbed her keys
And ran out the door
The secret treasure was hidden at their spot
The place where they snuck out to meet every night
And also where they were first acquainted
A box was laid neatly next to the tall oak
A lump formed in her throat as she sorted through the objects
There was his baseball glove
The one he spent many summer days breaking in
The hat he always wore
Worn from hardly ever taking it off
And a picture of the two at prom
Such a lovely night spent together
So many memories
So many good times
So why the rash decision?
She then came to a necklace with a note attached
The words blurred as she tried to read
“My love,
You were the one good thing in my life.
I’ll always love you,
Even if you did chose him over me after our last fight.
If you’re wondering why I did this,
The reason is simple.
To show them.
And also you.
I would have done anything for anyone.
Taken the blame when it wasn’t me,
Get beaten up just so you could run away,
Even walked to the end of the Earth.
But no one realized it.
Or even cared.
Just please do me a favor,
And make sure Mike gets his cds back.
And, also, fulfill my last request,
Wear this and always remember me.”
She folded the letter
And fingered the golden charm
She lay against the rough bark
And cried herself to sleep
Dreaming of the love she screwed up
And planning to always wear his heart next to hers
Exactly where it truly belonged
