Together Forever (Feedback Appreciated)
written by another_broken_soul

I call her cell phone,
She doesn’t answer.
She takes long showers-
I don’t think anything of it.

Two o’clock…one hour later.
“I’m going over there,”
I tell myself.
She was sad Friday,
Didn’t want to say why,
But I’m sure she’s fine.

Her car’s not in the driveway.
They closed the garage door-
They never close that door.
Nobody seems to be home
Maybe she went shopping.

In her room
There’s a photo album.
Sinking into the carpet,
I see us at the cabin
Last summer.
I remember when she got the puppy;
A yellow lab.

But she hates photos.
She never looks at them.
Why are all her photos out?

I smell something.
A car, maybe…

I see us at the top of Sacajawea Peak,
Wind-tossed hair,
Arms thrown around each other,
Forever laughing in that picture.
Forever together.

There we are
At her 13th birthday.
She was finally a teenager.
She was so happy that day-

-I smell it again.
Nobody’s home; she left her car on?
I’ll go check the garage
“Hey honey! Where are you?
Is your car busted?”

-Silence-

“Sweetie? You here?”

-Dead Silence-

The garage door is cracked open.
One step-
The exhaust burns my throat.
My eyes water; I can’t keep them open.
I stumble to the bottom of the stairs.

My own scream echoes back to my ears.

Her arm hangs limp
From the car window.
Exhaust seeps across the floor
Like disease,
Reaching out to pull me under,
And smother my soul.

My knees hit concrete.
“How could you leave me?!
Take me with you!”
I scream at her lifeless form,

Still, Pale, Untouched.

A chill creeps up my spine
As I let myself lay down
On the cold floor.
White fumes
Slowly twist around my body.

Over my feet,
Up my legs,
Caressing the inside of my thighs,
Gliding smoothly over my stomach,
And across my chest.

Draping itself over my neck
It reaches my ears,
Whispering of forbidden fruit,
Bitter salvation
Eternity.

It reaches down my throat,
No longer burning,
But warming me inside.
Grey seeps into the edges of my memory.

“I’m coming. Wait for me.”

My eyes close
As I sigh,
And drift out of light
Into darkness…

I see her sillohette.
A smile tugs at the corners of my mouth.
I run to her.
And here we’ll stay,
Together forever.
