» Poem: Familiar Rescuer
Familiar Rescuer

Locked up, the air is so cold and bitter down here
No warm sunlight, no windows near
No way to tell if it's night
There's just no way to tell what's right
Stomach growling, the squeaky door calls
No way of knowing when the darkness will fall
The smell of sour dish rags, from my cleaning, lingers
Then suddenly, oh so suddenly, someone comes through the door
Tall, dark, water dripping on the floor
What's his name?
Who has brought him shame?
His face seems so familiar, but I can't recall where I've seen him
I know I've seen him somewhere, is he someone who cares?
His pale face and cold, dark eyes look up as his face meets mine
"I knew what I had to do to get to you. I walked for miles in the hard, sharp, pouring rain just to say that I love you again."
That was all he had to say
To make me realize I felt the same way
I fall into his arms, leaning against his warm, wet chest
As I listen to his heart's lullaby
I begin to cry
His words so soft, his eyes so true
I would've lost my mind if he hadn't shown up soon
His long, dark hair dripping as the tears from his eyes did
I couldn't help but cry silently within
Holding each other close, not willing to let go
Fully unaware of what the other one knows
We've loved each other all along
So where did we go wrong?
Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter now
Now that there's no doubt
Kissing me gently, he tenderly whispers in my ear
"I'm so happy that my heart led me here."
