with you i can shine

i am miserable,
but i can't
let that show-
i can't let a
glimmer of the
real me
shine through.
i must make you
think that i am
truly this way-
happy and carefree,
as if i wasn't
a real person-
with feelings.
as i put on
my happy face
and get ready
to go-
i realize that i
don't need that
hideous mask
anymore,
for when i'm
with you,
i can let my
guard down
and let the
real rays of me
shine through |
