» Poem: Blinded Colors
Blinded Colors

Life behind a curtain where jumbled-jungle-colors
jump to seize the warmth hidden behind closed lids.

The blind, seeing not the absences of light
nor the absence of color. Closed eyes imagine
colored photographs. The world around is only
feeling and inside shades never before seen
multiply and no one else can think up
the world in such irrational display.

Life behind a curtain where jumbled-jungle-colors
jump to seize the warmth hidden behind closed lids.

Touch – feel the shape of sight and let
never open rods and cones make believe
what things should be. Place lines where
circles lie and break the triangles apart.
Send stars splitting into V’s. The
illusion is but your own, and you don’t
know - what is it to truly see. But feel
is all anyone needs. So replace a plane
of unparalleled lines and dissected polygons
with your colored box of Never-Before-Seen
Crayons. Your true colors do impress.

Life behind a curtain where jumbled-jungle-colors
jump to seize the warmth hidden behind closed lids.

Author's footnotes and comments on this Poem:
Being/becoming blind is my biggest fear. I wrote a poem about it (blindness anyway). This didn't come out the way I wanted to... but oh well.
