» Poem: Death of the Beloved
Death of the Beloved
written by lost_and_forgotten
01:30 AM 2/2/05
The sound of your voice echoes in my mind
As I glide barefoot down the hallway
With reflections of yesterday
Gleaming on the black marble floor.
I remember the times we shared,
All good,
Your soul always so kind,
Never harsh in any way, under any condition.
I remember yesterday morning...
You were sitting in your chair at the kitchen table
And the sun was pouring in through the windows
Making little rainbows against the floor.
You took your last sip of you white chocolate coffee
Then straightened up your tie
And left for work after my goodbye kiss and one last
"I love you"...
Two hours later that morning
The phone rang
And I answered.
An accident?
A drunk driver?
But it's only ten in the morning...
I rused to the hospital to see you lying there
Unconcious and bleeding
With a respirator tube lodged in your throat.
I collapsed to the floor and cried there for hours
When the doctors came in and told me
You wouldn't make it.
I walked over to your cold body
And stared at your blank expression
As the tears fell from my eyes
And splashed gently onto you.
I kissed you one last time
And as my lips met yours
Your breath was taken away forever
Because you were too precious to live on earth.
