» Poem: Betrayed by the light
Betrayed by the light
written by darkness_follows_me
05:46 PM 3/2/05
I hold my pillow to my face
Choke back relentless tears
Droplets aching to be set free
Held back through all my fears.

I bite my lip and then sit up
Rocking; forward, back
I throw my pillow at the wall
Into shadows, coloured black.

Waking them from slumber
To the smell of fear within
They know that I am vulnerable
From goose bumps on my skin.

I hold my head and dig my nails
Into my head, in hope,
Maybe they will tear the thoughts
That weaken my will to cope.

Lost in the haze of secrets
That twirl about my head
Amongst the corrupted curses
That are better left unsaid.

Shadowy figures are forming
Manipulating my sight
Feeding off anxiety and pain
And laughing at my fright.

Harsh memories replaying now,
Just a blur of shouts and screams,
But powerful enough to kill me slow,
And suppress my childhood dreams.

Shaking, quivering, pleading to them
Let me go free and live
Just one chance to gather my strength
But It’s still too much to give.

So I’ll just curl up in my corner
And believe the things they say
Knowing there’s nothing I can do
There’s just no chance, no way.

In the haze of night and darkness
I’ll confine my tears to this place
But in the morning, when light sets in
I’ll still wear my happy face.
