» Poem: What the Universe Has in Store for Me
What the Universe Has in Store for Me
written by xxxxxxblackdragonxxxxxx
05:21 AM 3/4/05
I stand on the crest of the hill overlooking the city
I light a cigarette and observe
It's man-made elegance and artificial lights
The sounds, the smells...
All of which I had become aquainted with quite well
During my stay
My home
Cloaked in magnificent twilight
The cold wind at my back
Reminding me that the whole world lay beyond the confinement of that steel jungle
I take another breath through my addiction
I breathe out the poison
Feeling the familiar sting as it rushes out my nose
Smoke trails into the sky
So much to see
So little time
So much to do
For myself and others
The loves I had gained
And those that I had lost
The many lives I had seen
come and go
The cold barrel positions itself on the back of my head
But it isn't my choice to die
Suicide would be selfish
The easy way out
I hear the gun cock
The machinery doing it's job
The man chuckles
I say a silent prayer
The trigger is pulled
I fall, my last breath
Staring up at the twilight
Fading out of consciousness
My mortal life over

But the cycle would continue
The Earth would keep turning
God has a plan for everything
